Angola LNG resumes production

Angola LNG has confirmed that production has resumed at its liquefaction plant at Soyo, northern Angola, following the recent plant shutdown.

In May 2014, Angola LNG announced a planned shutdown following an incident at the LNG plant on 10 April 2014. The shutdown was to enable Angola LNG’s contractor, Bechtel, to both correct items from the incident and address plant capacity issues. At the time, Angola LNG anticipated a restart in mid-2015.

The first LNG cargo following the shutdown has now been loaded and is being sold by an international tender.

Angola LNG said that production is continuing and it expects to load further LNG and LPG cargoes as part of the plant commissioning and testing process. Full hand over and commercial operation of the plant from Bechtel will take place in due course after a planned shutdown.

Artur Pereira, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Angola LNG Marketing, said: “Angola LNG is pleased to be back in production. The market has changed a lot while our plant has been shut down, but we are pleased to be able to deliver Angola LNG to the world and to take our place as a reliable and safe supplier in global LNG markets”.

Angola LNG added that future LNG cargoes will be sold globally in a variety of ways, including international sales tenders.
