Premier and Minister visit QCLNG project

To mark the start of commercial operations from the first production train of BG Group’s Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) project, the Premier of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk, and Federal Industry and Science Minister, Ian Macfarlane, have toured the LNG plant on Curtis Island, near Gladstone, Australia.

The QCLNG plant commenced production in December 2014, becoming the world’s first LNG facility to be supplied by natural gas sourced from coal beds. Since then, 16 LNG cargoes have been shipped from QCLNG as commissioning and performance testing of the LNG plant was undertaken by Bechtel Australia Pty Ltd. 

BG Group and China National Offshore Oil Corp. are 50/50 partners in the LNG plant’s Train 1.

QGC Managing Director, Mitchell Ingram, said: “We're proud to be delivering an important new energy industry for Queensland and world markets […] Congratulations to our team and Bechtel who have worked hard to achieve this milestone. We also greatly appreciate the support received from our partners, governments, contractors, suppliers, our many landholders and community members.” 

The LNG project’s second train is expected to start up in 3Q15. At plateau production, expected during next year, QCLNG will have an output of around 8 million tpy of LNG.
